This picture is taken in the rice terraces around Ping'an, which is a part of the 'dragon's backbone riceterraces' close to Longsheng in GuangXi province. Some of the hills around the village are completely brought into culture for growing rice already a long time ago.
I've visited the place also in 2004, and the village has changed a lot, since the Chinese mass tourism has discovered the nice area as well. The village used to be completely built out of wood, but nowadays there are many concrete buildings, which they make look like wood.
Also there are roads through the hills being built, to make even the remote villages easily accessible. This is nice for the villages, but also means these villages will change very soon.

Hello Tony - I can easily see why people visit this area, the scenery is wonderful. Here the greens of the rice terraces are fresh and beautiful and together with the small hamlet in the bottom of the bowl of terraces makes a super interesting shot. The more distant landscape gives the feeling of distance and location. Excellent. TFS and best regards Rosemary
