Sculptured fields, a photo from Yunnan, South

Photographer's Note

Yuanyang is about 300km south west of Kunming at 2000m elevation, offers one of the most scenic spots in Yunnan for the amazing rice-terraces built on the red-soil mountains by the ethnic 'Hani' for generations after generations. Anyone has to admit that it is a human engineering feat only crafted out by bare hands by those hard working people. They have created such a wonder, a beautiful natural landscape without any aid of modern machinery.

This was taken at Laohuzui, literally means 'tiger mouth', as somewhere in the myriad curving terraces there is reputedly something resembling a tiger's mouth. But I was unable to see anything remotely tiger like, instead I could spot 2 tiny dots of 'Hani' farmers on bottom RHC just to show the immense scale of this terrace.

It was breathtaking nonetheless..

Wonderful landscape. Since the time I saw pictures from this place, it is really a place to visit for a photographer and for a tea fan. Yunnan is one of my favorite.
The top point of view was good to better evidence the high amount of 'lakes' and the variety in the shapes.

this is an incredible place,so magnificent, so wonderful, and that you had the chance to see at the good season, when the ricefields are in water, and offer the most beautiful reflections.When I was here, it was in august,and it was completly green, and it was breathtaking also, but not as much as in April, it is sure. Your picture is impressive and splendid. It was a little bit difficult to find the farmers, but now I can see them.

We didn't make it here the last time we were in China, but it is on my top priority to come here It looks like maybe April is not a bad time, the water is already filled up the terraces. What is your opinion when would be the best time to see it.

This is simply amazing, like a work of art with stain glass.

It looks more like an abstract painting than a photograph. Just like what they have in the Philippines, I wish I took time to see them, it's amazing how creative the people were long time ago. Awesome pov and it has a good dof with sharp details. Good lighting and wonderful colors. WEll done, tfs.

You're capturing well this landscape by a good angle, so it's impressive to see rice-terrace with arable land subdivided by the geometrical pattern on mountain. It's interesting in tone from which the arable land which led water differs, too.

a fantastic composition, when I saw the miniature I think that this was a photo of an impressionistic painting taken in some museum, I think about one Van Gogh.
But on having opened the photo I see that it is an amazing landscape, where the rice fields, with its impressive terraces and its fantastic colors, and the nice reflections on the water, they form a very artistic composition, with an excellent graphism.

This looks more like a stained glass painting...of course we have seen quite a few of these amazing rice terrace shots from Yunnan & they never ever cease to amaze me...The palette of colours, the palette of light makes this delightful! You mentioned about the 2 farmers at the bottom corner! Wow! The scale really is imopressive. This is indeed a super work!

what famine is able to do. amazing this huge mountains transformed in a rice field, the only plantation that can be similar in this audacityis a rice field I found inside peruvian desert or a field located in a very dangerous abyss in colca valley in peru too.

Dear abmdsudi,
Truly in the spirit of TE. What a place! And what spirited people.
Even I could not figure out any semblance to a tiger mouth but the shot is great. The textures, the colours, the topography has comes out really nice. It's almost like the palette of an oil painter, with oil dripping the several paints aside.
Great shot. But I must mention a little more contrast and hue enhancing could have made it even better.
