Photographer's Note

This is a close up portrait of an elderly, a graceful Tadjik lady from a rural village in Taxkorgan with her traditional colorful embroidered hat or 'kolta'. I was on the prowl for photo opportunities around her village and had observed her from a distance for she had the most wonderful facial features. I was lucky enough to have captured this image with full eye contact and exchanged smiles she seemed pleased, little bits of interaction like that make my travel very special and meaningful. She gave me a tremendous gift, her time, humanity, the most amazing eye contact and above all the opportunity to make a very special picture.

I recognize your feelings when meeting a person like this and managing to establish some kind of contact, also the gratefulness one feels towards that person. Your short encounter resulted in a very fine portrait with a good eye contact. The sharpness is perfect and the tight cropping allows us to focus entirely on her gentle smile and bright eyes.

Hello Abmdsudi,

Good intimate portrait with a framing that I like a lot.

You have included a good portion of her hat and veil to bring a sense of "ethnicity".

One little thing that I would suggest; when lightening the eyes to make them more perceptible, keep it subtle, so the white part isn't abnormally white and the iris overly saturated. In close situation like here, the intervention is highly detectable.

Salam Abmdsudi.You are one of the few members on TE who can take photos of people in which the inner person shines through the subtle tilt of the head, the hint of a smile or the spark in the eye, the glimpse of a costume or head covering. And as usual the light accentuates those aspects that are meaningful and evocative.The clarity here is faultless.I love the fine embroidery of her kolta. I can detect an indomitable spirit in her gaze despite the age and so I should considering her race and history. Salam. Klaudio.

Hi abmdsudi,

You're capturing well the portrait of this old man by good macro and excellent tone, so it's impressive and interesting to see that the face is clearly different from standard chinese face. It's close to the European. His face looks gentle and good as the weight at years is felt.
Anyway, I always feel that there are many races in china, and in the region in north/south/east/west, the look is also different in climate and ancestor's roots. I think that the religion and the ancestor's bringing a different race together in one requires a great deal of attention. It is there respect of economical independence, too and which good, the judgment is difficult though it is one selection to make independent countries in the surrounding republic like Russia.

I like this close up portrait, the framing is very well choosen with just a part of her face on the right. We can feel a lot of things with her eyes, her smile, the tanned skin by the sun, she looks poud and happy. A kind of portrait that tell me and technicaly it is perfect. Congratulation

Dear Abmdsudi,

One of the interesting thing in travelling to new places is out meeting and interaction with the local people. Older folks and young children are an interest to me due to their facial expressions. The former is defined by wrinkles and weather beaten facial textures, while the latter is usually filled with youthful glow. But the expressions in their eyes - they tell you so much, as found in your shot here.

indeed a very special picture, with that intense look that you have wonderfully captured and transmitted across an intense ... sometimes nice .... maybe some wrinkles that speak of an outdoor life and working hard.
