Photographer’s Note

Kashgar (Kashi) animal market. A typical Ugyhur man in typical Uyhur clothes surveys the market. The market is divided up into sections; this is (obviously) the donkey section. There is a camel section, and a Sheep Section.

Tech: same as all my B&W China photos: 2400x3600 pixel scan direct from negative. Contrast mask (sky was too bright). Contrast adjustment, curves, brightness adjustment, crop, resize and sharpen (maybe a bit too much sharpening now I look at it again).

Nice shot, I like the weathered face and his expression. Composition is good with the donkeys giving the environment and situation in a down to earth sort of way. Seems to be some excessive sharpening going on, particularly visible in the halo around the hat and the white edge on his back.

Very well composed and funny photograph. I love this collection of donkey's asses. Interesting scenery of daily life, very representative and in TE spirit IMO.

Good quality scan which renders a wide range of tones.

before opening upthe thumbnail, i kew it was taken in Kashgar.. i simply love those faces..and the palace too.. I have to go back there...

IMO, portraits should include an informative background. Because 'no man is an island.'
So,this is a good portrait. But, again IMO, background details shouldn't prevent to focus the main subject. So, it would be better less depth of field and a blured background.
