Cobblers (shoe repairers) plying their trade at a covered market in (I think) Yarkand, in the Xinjiang autonomous region of western China.
Tech notes:
Taken while sitting down on a chair in front of their stall. Hi-res scan direct from negative. Contrast adjustments, dodging of bright areas, curves, resize and sharpen.

I like the build up of three in a row more and less in the same pose and all deep into their job. The stretch out hand feels a bit cropped at first but maybe it is good to have it that way, I think that if we could see the hand and the thing he is picking up all our interest would go there instead.
