Photographer’s Note
Old Shanghai is rapidly disappearing and replaced by modern office and appartment buildings.
In the old town however there remains a core of more traditional Chinese city life organised around such alleys with rows of water basins.
Not unlike some of the old back alleys of Europe's cities.

Hello my dear Paul
It is quite good shutter chance you could get.
I like very much this kind of photo which expresses their daily life. We can understand how backside of them is chaos and confused. but this is reality. Nice composition and stable color.
Thanks for sharing and best regards

Hi Paul, I love this photo. It shows a part of daily life that is not seen on the postcards. But is a necessary part of life. You have managed the shade really well here, the image is very sharp. I also like like the title of your photo. Complimenti, Lisa

Hi Paul,
this is the first time I visit your gallery (and it will not be the last time) and I must admit that you have collected very fascinating impressions, this one being the most spectacular from my point of view. It has deserved much more attention but a lot of members of this fraternity prefer the bright and joyful images. Your image tells an exciting story of a time that soon will be history. I appreciate this photo very much! TFS!
Warm regards

I love the views into the back streets. Surprisingly they are everywhere.
May be not all of them contain water basins but they are all pretty similar...
The bad thing is that they are usually dark and difficult to photograph.
Here n spite of a difficult light you did a great job.
It is a very interesting and well presented subject.
Thanks for sharing,
M

Bonsoir Paul,
Branko

what an amazing document straight from the core of the traditional Shanghai. Looking carefully to it one notes the organization in an apparently chaotic place.
the lady bowing and concentrated in her work adds a lot to the composition.
Thanks for sharing, Paul. You have a nice and interesting portfolio, and i intend to visit it asap.
