Photographer’s Note

Domesticated yaks are kept primarily for their milk, fiber and meat, and as beasts of burden. They transport goods across mountain passes for local farmers and traders as well as for climbing and trekking expeditions. They also are used to draw ploughs. Yak dung is even burned as fuel. Yak milk is often processed to a cheese. Butter made of Yaks' milk is an ingredient of the butter tea that Tibetans consume in large quantities, and is also used in lamps and made into butter sculptures used in religious festivities.

Pojawienie sie krów na TE wzbudziło tyle emocji, ze zaczęłam przeszukiwać moje archiwa, czy nie mam jakiejś. Mam, ale natrafiłam na tego yaka, którego można skrzyżowac z krową. Yak to bardzo poczciwe i pożyteczne zwierzę, jak można przeczytać wyżej.
I ciężary nosi, i pole zaora, dostarcza mięsa i wełny, z mleka robi się sery i masło, które dodaje sie do pysznej :)herbaty (nie piłam, ale befsztyk z yaka jadłam). Nawet g.... się przydaje na opał. Tamte krowy to były nudystki, a mój yaczek elegancko ubrany.

Hello Malgorzata,
I have seen a few yaks in the Himalayas, but never any even remotely similar to this. A spectacular sight, but I can understand that an animal of such economic importance has the right to be adored and adorned once in a while.

When I saw the thumbprint, I thought this was a statue of a yak, with all these decorations, but it sure looks alive! Now I see in your answer to my brother that this is a true model! However, this is a very fine and interesting picture!

I like this photo for the beauty of the beast, and your note as well. The Yak it seems is more usefull, beautifull and surely more durable than any car I have ever owned!Thanks for the posting, one of the best I've seen on TE

Hello Malgorzata,
I have a seen a yak like this one. Only one (perhaps the same). It was in Jiuzhaigou at the lake where Tibetan people had a small market. And it also looked very tired and bored, like this one, probably tired of all those hordes of tourists.
You captured it very well. Excellent sharpnes, beautiful colours and a view on the surroundings.

This is so cute, it like celebrating Chinese New year. it look so festive. Anyway, very nice shot. I love it. I had butter tea when I was in Tibet. It's kind of nice, sweet and buttery, keep you warm, better than their coffee.

rozbawilas mnie notka totalnie, nie wiedzialem ze to takie pozyteczne zwierzatko,
Szczerze - to nawet nie wiedzialem jak Yak wyglada :)
Kopytka to ma swinskie, owlosienie pudelka a ryjek... ciezko porownac... chyba swoj :)
Pieknie Ci zapozowal do zdjecia, no i piekne ma te ciuszki, trzeba przyznac :)

Fantastyczne zdjecie- ja jak i wiekszosc widze nigdy takiego stworzenia na wlasne oczy nie widzialem;) Bardzo ladne i potulne zwierzatko. Chyba na jakies swieto trafilas, bo tak wystrojony;)) Wspaniale ujecie. Co niektorzy chyba pekna ze zlosci;)
