Central reclamation on Hong Kong Island Photo

Photographer’s Note

In April 2005, when I bought my Olympus C-70 camera, I took a photo of the Duk Ling - HK's last sailing junk - from the 'old' Star Ferry Pier in Central - with the HK Convention & Exhibition Center in the background.

Today's photo was taken from the 'new' Star Ferry Pier - with my new Lumix FZ28 - and shows how far the reclamation work has come and how far the new pier was moved away from the Convention Center.

The Wan Chai page on Wikipedia has a floor plan of the reclamation work and a gif animation of the moving Wan Chai "Costline" from 1842 to 1997.

Hi Andrew, I hope that all is well. Good architectural shot and a fine documentary of the constant reclamation work that is going on in HK. Nice lighting to show this richly-detailed view, and good depth from the lines that lead the viewer's eye towards the highrises in the back.

I like the way you capture daily life in Hong Kong! well, not only daily life, but its architecture, trams, buses, people...! I think I will never forget Hong Kong as it impressed me so much when I first saw it (now it seems - so long ago, like in a different life). I still hope to find an opportunity to come there again.

Interesting perspective view! And I like the colours... I have no idea why but for me Hong Kong has a special colour (or maybe tint?) - hazy bluish. This is what I see in this photo. This is very nice!

Hi Andrew, a very interesting set of comparisons here, and yes, amazing how quickly they're working on this... and how slow the progress in on the convention centre extension, is it really that difficult?
