I believe this mountain to be Mount Bogda (Bodg Uul), although no one there could give me a definate answer so it may be a different un-named mountain.
This area of China is unique as in many ways it's really not China at all. Everything is in Arabic language, Chinese is poorly understood (or spoken with a really heavy accent), the majority of the population is either Ughir or Kazak, the food and architecture are different, and the way of life is completely different to the rest of China.
I took this photo from high up one side of a valley at TianChi (Heavenly Lake) in the TianShan mountains north of Urumqi. If this is Mount Bogda, it stands 5445m (17,864ft) tall and wasn't first climbed until 1981.
This photo was originally taken in colour, however I felt there just wasn't enough light and colour to justify it, and felt that B&W suited it better. I've cropped it and increased the contrast a little, but that's all. Let me know what you think! |

Hi Lee,
This is beautiful, what a breathtaking view. Black and white really suits the shot and so does the panoramic format. I love the clouds surrounding the peak.

Hi Lee
Very good B/W capture of Mount Bogda. I reckon you could have pulled the contrast just a bit more as there seems to be a alot of shadow and highlight detail still to play with. Good sharpness and the clouds surrounding the mountain is fantastic. Nice border to compliment the image.
Regards
Jim

Hi Lee!
Very nice, sharp photo of Mt.Bogda and surrounding clouds. I think the B&W version was a good choice. Good shot but in my opinion with a little more contrast could be better and more impressive.
Thanks, Csilla

Hi Lee, Welcome to TE. I like this alpine view. It seems it is not so easy for us to know what the names of many places like this are. The clarity is good showing the high mountain ranges. TFS. Murray.
Excellent perspective and the shot has a "chilly" feel to it as well. Regards, Doug
