I like this picture from the People's park a lot. These hobby musicians met for their own pleasure, the composition of the group changed continuously and they spent much time to discuss what they wanted to play. There were other groups nearby consisting variably of one, two or up to ten members. The music played was exclusively traditional and when you talk about traditional, the central Chinese culture rakes back to more than a thousand years. The governement systematically fosters the respect for traditions.

To the left you see the female singer. Then follows a player of the Erhu, a screeching-sounding fiddle with two strings; the next musician plays the Sheng, a sort of complex Carina; two more Erhu players follow. To be quite honest: the music sounds absolutely weird to an unexperienced European ear. I add a picture of the note booklet in the workshop area.

Hallo Dieter!
