Silk Road: Kashgar

The Id Kah mosque at the place of the same name is the center of the oasis-city. It was built in 1442 and is much visited by Muslims men and women until today. Marco Polo mentions that the Kashgari "worship Mahomet" and have mosques in his book of 1299. The Buddhist religion was gradually replaced with Islam through the Uighurs colonizing Xin Jiang province from the 9th century on: Islam arrived peacefully by way of the Silk Road ! I found no traces of Jewish and Nestorian Christian traditions in Kasgar any more.

Hallo Dieter!
Frank
