[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Silkroad travels: Xinjiang
We are cycling in the foothills of the Alaykuu Kirkasi mountains that border the great Taklamakan desert. Again, the landscape changes every hour.

We are greeted by the friendly Bactrian camels. They have many uses to the farmers; they carry riders and goods, pull plows, give milk and meat. But the expeditionary forces of the 19th-20th century into this region (Von Stein, Hedin, Lecoq, Przewalsky and others) sometimes complained about the spirited character of the animals in their caravans. By the way: Przewalsky has his monument in St. Peterburg that shows him with a Bactrian camel.

Used literature: P. Hopkirk, 1980. Foreign Devils on the Silk Road. Oxford Univ. Press.

Hallo Dietrich!
It's very unusual site of a baren mountain and valley - you give us a good hint of what it is like in the desert. The camels are a good live addition to the solitude of the place...
Greetings!
Anton
