Photographer’s Note
Name of the instrument? In any case, a typical scene near the weekly Uighur market in Kashgar...

Hey Caleb. I don't know the name of the instrument. There's a Chinese equivalent, which is shorter, I think.
Anyway, its another great Kashgar portrait with rich details and great composition. I really like the two women in the background. If this was another place, I think I would infer that both were his wives ;-)
Btw. I guess you've heard about the upcoming demolition of a huge portion of Kashgar's old town and move the Uighur residents out to the suburbs. They will keep just a little area, which will be a desginated "tourist zone"....Ahhh, that Chinese leadership..
I guess that makes your Kashgar pics a kind of "urgent photography". I hope I will be able to go there, while there's still street-scenes and Uighur culture like this to be seen.

Hi Caleb!
Really interesting one! I am a musician, (and a troubador..hehe) so in a way this comes close to home. The instrument itself is unique for sure...very long neck, and unique looking patterns on it. Nice find, particularly because I really don't think there are many such photos of musicians on the sight. The photos itself, conjures up many thoughts....is he singing, and what is going on?....I wish I had been there! Great work, regards,
Steve

Hi Caleb!
What a great expression! I like the details like the tea pot in front of him, the women sitting in background but his expression while he's playing is fabulous, he seems so concentrated.I read Henrik's comment and I'm amazed, are they really going to destroy all that?
PS: "If I'm not wrong, I guess that instrument is called a dutar"
