Photographer’s Note
Sometimes I look at an older picture and wonder what on earth happened to the people in it. This picture of two friends in Kasghar in the far west of the People's Republic of China always has this effect on me.
picture taken in 1998, during my first trip in China

Kashgar (Kashi in Chinese) is an oasis city in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. Kashgar is the cultural center of Uyghur people.

Benny: I almost recognize one of the boys as a young barber - perhaps a mistake. Image is a bit rough and noisy but I catch the spirit. c

Benny,
Beautiful double portrait. excellent scanning job, what is old to you is still new to us and the older the photos the more meaning it is to me, it captured the time that's past. It the next best thing to time travel, especially for you, since your were there. What I love most here is this photos it the depiction of friendship, and historical vallue of this photo. I can imagine these boys now are grown men, with a different ways of life, are they still in the same town? Are they still friends, How life been to them in the very far end remote part of the world? The other part that I think is also very valuable is the location of the photo, a part of the world not many tourist venture to. Love it, a true TE image at its best. thanks for taking you time, my complements and admiration.

Benny, this is amazing. What a coincidence (sorry for my bad English). What a very nice portrait and also wonderful because it is a analogue picture (there is so much athmosphere in analogue pictures).
You picked the two friends very well, that's how I remember Kashgar!

Hello my dear Benny
Very casual but impressive scene.
They were not nervous nor pose, they are very natural. Warm color from scanning is also significant.
Many thanks for sharing and best regrads,

Hello Benny
Excellent scan...more and more I am thinking that scanning from a print is better than scanning from slides/negatives. Again I'll say this...excellent and the mood is great too.
Thanks

Hello Benny,
You have captured their natural expression well, though the photo quality suffers a little in scanning. I am sure the original looks much better. This does not matter to me as TE is not only about photos, its about sharing the world too. I am glad you post this. 11 years has gone past since this was taken. These 2 boys should be in their 20s now, they look smart though. They could replace President Hu Jintao one day, God knows.
Cheers
