Photographer’s Note
I took this photo not very far from Turpan, very near to the Flaming Mountains in a very small village. Really interesting small village with a mosque and quite a lot of grape drying houses (I am not so sure what the official name is, very famous Turpan raisin gets dried there). People very extremely friendly and also curious. This old man was standing in front of this wall, if you look at it a bit more closely, it also displays something strange. You can see a very vague Chinese sign there, and on top that one written with Uygur letters. Even if I don`t understand the meaning, it conveys something important for me.

Good composition, Zsuzsanna. Very interesting photo from an unusual place! He's go a great expression on his face, happy in the warm sunshine. The writing on the wall makes me curious, and the Chinese characters do add another layer of interest. The slight angle changes the balance to make it stand out just a bit more. Wonderful!

I've always found the majority of travel portraits to be more than a little cliched but you've managed to avoid them here and deliver a very nice, original image. The backdrop with the script on the wall is the clincher for me. The old man's expression is also a good point.
Nice work, PHIL

Simple but expertly composed environmental portrait, Zsuzsanna. This man caught against the background of the holy words of Islam, has plenty of power.
Well seen,

Hello Zsuzsanna. Your photo pleases me very well. It is outstanding composed. The Portrait of the old man stands out very well before the structured wall in the background. Very well, very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Zsuzsanna: inclusion of local script is always a winner. A fine portrait. Nice and sharp too. best, c

hi zsuzsanna,
very nice portrait indeed. did you know uiguhurs are a branch of turks that did not migrate to turkey. i as a turk would understand their language...and more interesting the first dictionary of turkish language was written in kashgar called 'divani lugati turk' which means the literature/dictionary of turks. surprising isnt it??
regards
mustafa
ps. and these letters belong to arab alphabet ;)
