Photographer’s Note

Perhaps not the first image of China that comes to the imagination - a Muslim Uighur village near Turupan - the hottest, and lowest place in political China - Chinese Turkestan. A weathered tomb occupies the valley behind...

Upon reflexion, overdone vignetting.

How beautiful, the warm colours of Xinjiang. I have been there, but never in Turupan. It attracks me a lot !!

one of the very fascinating area of China, not a typical image of China we are familia with. Great portrait shot as always. Love it. Do they speak Mandarin here? Love to visit this area. Thanks

A superb shot. The man seems like he belongs to the landscape. I have not seen a lot of pictures of the XinJiang province. Thanks for sharing.

Not only is this a wonderful portrait of this man and his enviroment in perfect focus...but the colors are really a key player here. That subdued cyan and yellow of the background work very nicely against the higher contrasted and saturated skincolor of your subject.
This really enhances his rough, outdoor facial features.

The man does not look Chinese at all...more West Asian appearance. I had read about the Uighur tribe of people in a book...I think you can find them in Tibet as well, they being nomadic tribes. Excellent portrait, but the BG also provides great interest with the mosque of such simple & plain design!
