Silkroad travels: Kashgar

Old Kashgar seen from the outskirts, in the direction West-southwest. It is the Uighur inhabited part of the oasis city. As you will notice under "Map: View", that despite much replacements with modern buildings, the old part has impressive dimensions. At the time of the visitors Aurel Stein and Sven Hedin (around the end of the 19th century) there existed intact earthen city walls; natural loess cliffs like the one you see to the right had been incorporated into it.

Again the sky was laden with loess dust from the near desert.

Hallo Dieter
Auf den ersten Blick etwas trostlos (mit unseren Augen gesehen, die insbesondere ausschließlich Flachdächer nicht gewohnt sind) aber beim näheren Hinsehen entdeckt man dann doch architektonische Individualität. Sehe ich dort ein Riesenrad!?
Übrigens, die angebotene "map view" gibt es nicht ;-)
