Photographer's Note

At the roads in Tibet I found friendly people, like this charming woman with her lovely children
At the back is the Himalaya Mountain we were going to cross

Color skin

It has long been obvious that various mountain peoples are specially adapted to the thinner air and reduced oxygen density of their home regions; this means that low oxygen levels and the high altitude air produced a very special skin tone

Whether this was a result of genetic differences or long-term acclimatization by individuals (i.e. you grew up with thinner air so you acquired traits over your life) was often not clear

I found another interesting fact

When lowlanders try to live at high altitudes, their blood thickens as the body tries to counteract the low oxygen levels
This overproduction of red blood cells leads to chronic mountain sickness and to lesser fertility
Han Chinese living in Tibet has three times the infant mortality of Tibetans.

Obviously this woman and the children are born in Tibet

Hello Maria,

This is a beautiful family portrait. Only the father is missing.The woman is with all the smiles, but the children look a bit more serious. I like the native clothings with nice colors. Nice sharp image with blurrd background.

This is a beautiful photograph! An interesting image and it's so nice when they pose for you. We can feel the the harshness of the conditions - particularly in their faces. very well captured mother great expressions and children's discontent but lovely smile given by their mom. No real critique only perhaps a little fill in flash to bring out detail in the faces. This is a great picture faces with character in thin air. I like the pov, colours, crop and eye contacts, under this hashness but exposed is manageable A great people shot and this brings Tibet to me and you know your stuff of a good honest photograph. You have mmy respect. Congrats

Despues de mis vacaciones en las Canarias, ya estoy de nuevo por estas paginas.
Fantastico retrato de esta familia, la madre parece ser la que mas sonriente mira la camara, las niñas o parecen distraidas o enfadas, un grupo muy simpatico, captado con una gran nitidez y buena luminosidad, con lo cual vemos al detalle texturas y el estilo de sus trajes.
Un buen trabajo y una preciosa foto.

Hello Maria,

This is a very nice families portrait, yes, along the road in Tibet, one can come across many wonderful people, most are very poor but still they are fairly happy. The Children here are very typical of the area, a little dirty but friendly.

This takes me back to my own trip here 10 years ago.

a wonderful portrait of a Tibetan mother with her children. I love the clarity and strong hues that distinguish them from the background, the setting of their lives. They stand out as 3D and there's great depth and interest behind them. Your light management is very effective and I also appreciate very much the clear shady parts, especially on the face of the child on the left.
