Tibet is the highest country on earth.
The capital city Lhasa is located at 3500 metres above the sea level.
Any trip to Nepal thru the Himalayan mountains will expose you to altitudes over 5.000 metres. That means altitude sickness—also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS)- and one should pay attention to getting acclimatized, i.e., adjusting to decreasing absorption of oxygen by the lungs at higher elevations over time, in order to avoid AMS.
Mountains and lakes are considered sacred by Tibetan people, the principle being that they are the dwelling places of protective deities and therefore invested with special spiritual powers.
This shot was taken on the way to Old Tingri, after our visit of the Everest Base Camp in the morning.
Cropped, increased contrast & saturation, and applied gradual toning.

Beautiful scene. The mountains are wonderful and i love the shades on the landschape. The animals give us a good idea of scale.

Magnifique paysage trps bien composée !
Le dégradé des bruns et les jeux de lumière et d'ombres causé par les nuages sont du plus bel effet..

A wide and empty landscape! Yes, I like this kind of picture, with such nice colors. The shadows on the mountains are at the right place and the sky is beautiful.

Erdem, good day.
This is one of the best landscapes I have seen on TE in some time. Beautifully sharp with a lovely selection of brown colours in the hills and interesting clouds.
It does what TE is all about, telling us of places we may never get to, I have been to the other side in Nepal but now I would like to see this side.

Fantastic view from the roof of the Earth. Amazing landscape, wonderful colours. Haven't you any problems with the high altitude. Are there yaks on the meadows? Very beautiful shot.

What a gorgeous landscape. The lighting, shadows, and natural colors are superb. There is a wonderful feeling of depth and the cloudy sky is fantastic. You have a beautiful TrekEarth gallery. I enjoyed browsing through it. Thank you for your critique of my Smithsonian Elephant.

Merhaba Sevgili Erdem Bey,
I just came across this breath taking photo on your Profile Page, arranged with your preference of a 'Featured Photo.' On a plateau of such extraordinary altitudes, you must get some such crisp atmosphere, intense light and brilliant colors. The expansive view, makes the large grazing animals (possibly yaks) microscopic in appearance
About altitude sickness, in 1992 I drove to the summit of Mauna Kea (on the Island of Hawaii). I was visiting the Keck Observatory at an elevation of 4145 metres (13600 ft) near the summit of Mauna Kea in Hawai'i. Visits to the observatory require acclimatizing by taking a lengthy pit stop at 2800 metres (9200 ft). It also requires descending before 4:00pm, lest one has to turn on a car's headlights, which could do damage to the telescopes.
