Photographer’s Note

Every morning and every evening, the Tibetans walk in a huge circle around Joklang temple praying. This sweet lady has stopped to smile into my camera. Communism allows no religion. In Tibet the Communists let religion show, then crack down, then repeat the cycle of a little religion allowed, then none, over and over again. The head of the Tibetan Buddhist religion, the Dalai Lama won a Noble Peace prize for his work towards world peace.
Currently, March, 2008, Tibetans tried to bring world attention to their plight by peaceful demonstrations. No demonstrations are allowed under Communist rule, their fate is uncertain.

Important note,which remind us of d current demonstrations there.Tibetans have chosen an obvious moment to draw d world's attention,they have every reason why they should persist.

Hello Gloria,

This picture reminds me of my grand mother....this is the face of a good old rustic old woman of Asia, I think...

When I was a high school student, a younger brother of Dalai Lama had visited my high school (because my school is run by a Buddhist mission). He told us his wishes for independence of Tibet. It is an unforgetable experience.
Some year later, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama himself visited my city Nara, though unfortunately I had no chance to see him.
Anyway, I hope that Chinese government have dialogue with His Holiness, to end the cycle of violence....

I put two points for your nice portrait, and for the people of Tibet!

Another happy face under "Occupation"!!!

"the Dalai Lama won a Noble Peace prize for his work towards world peace" -- Don't you know Dalai Lama supports Iraq war? Dalai Lama is a "fashion" monk. He is eager to please westerns. Why? Because he needs money and support. He is actually a begger. I don't want my tax money spent on him. I would rather give them to tibetan people in Tibet.
