Photographer's Note
I know it is a rather poor quality photo but I saw almost the same POV here, at beautiful Gert's photo, so maybe it will be interesting to compare the same view after 20 years. Like Gert's , my photo was made from the top of the Jokhang Temple with the view of the Barkhor Square. The Potala palace is visible in the background. The two oven and the poles with praying flags are the same.
During my 5 weeks trip to China I visited many splendid places. Before the trip I bought a new Linux camera but I was not satisfied with it, and I posted relatively few photos. Besides, the memory was still expensive at that time, so I have something like 600 photos from the whole trip, now it is just a one day portion.

Really nice to have the comparison with gerts photo. How fortunate he was to be there in 1986. But this is a fine overview and we can see just how much has changed

Bonjour Malgorzata,
La qualité est correcte, c'est la fumée qui cache quelque peu ce qui se passe sur la place et toute son animation.
Amicalement

Hello Malgorzata,
This is a most amazing contribution. It may not be your very best photo, but I'm really thrilled that you posted it. The comparison to my workshop photo is very interesting. We must have been standing in pretty much the same spot on the temple roof, but we must have had different lenses since I have a narrower and closer view.
Thanks a lot for showing this.
Kind regards,
Gert
PS I was actually there only 20 years earlier :-)

Ciao Malgo
di sicuro la qualità non è eccezionale, però c'è anche il fumo che annebbia l'immagine, inoltre la foto è un pò datata, per cui, nel complesso, non è neanche tanto male.
Saluti
Carlo

Hi Malgo,
Inspite of the smoke, which cause you to say "poor-quality" about, there is a good depth and vivid tone with the people light-up the incense, a common doing by the Chinees all over, and the town scenery.
Nice showing a rather less-photographed corner of China.
Regards,
Ike

Witaj Malgo
Real great idea for this comparison shot from Lasha. Evidently time hasn't stood still in Lasha either. In Gerts photo from the 80ties the place looks far more rural, while here we are looking at a modern city. The only structure that I remember from Gerts photo is the smoking oven.
have a good evening

Hello, Malgo,
I had plan to visit Tibet in 2008, but then there are disorders begun on March 2008. Tibet was closed. yes, Gert was on of the first western tourists in China.
Good presentation of Lhasa,
Thanks for your support!
