Hej Gert,

Gert,
apart from very high quality in terms of composition, light and colors this picture is extraordinary for me because of the content.
There are plenty of details to dwell on and on and the whole scene is quite moving. I guess these people are some kind of pilgrims to the holy place (?). It is amazing that one can see some very small children and elderly people among them.
Great work!
Thanks for sharing

Hi Gert
This is kind of valued shot that we will look back in 30 years from now. An intriguing nice once upon a time, full of rustic antique stuff. Great observation and interesting street-people scene on how your brought this spot to good life. The ambience well reflected here; the typical background buildings, the prayer flags and the colorful and the antique looking pilgrims. I love the matured color treatment indeed suits the aged looks very well and the positive eye contact too. This is a very thoughtful, informative full of content and your ability to grab the precise moment is admired. Well done, TFS
Kind regards

Ciao Gert,
Ciao e buona serata

Shots like this one are why I love TE - beautiful photography, and a really important scene not often encountered. Some real and wonderful documentary work, Gert. Is the building at left at all connected to Potala? There's some architectural similarity there, but I'm not sure how pervasive that style is in Lhasa as a whole.
Regardless of that, a really skillful shot of this group of weary travelers, and an important bit of the past preserved. Thanks!

Hi Gert,
Haha, do you remember:
We could make a deal: If you go to Turkey (and not just to take pictures of Balloons over Cappadocia - everyone else has already done that), I promise to go to Poland :-).
I have bought tickets to Istanbul, I will go in October :)).
It is in front of Jokhang Temple, in Barkhor Square, but I can't recognize the place. But these people going (always clockwise!) round Jokhang are still the same. Great documentary shot.

Hi Gert, Beautiful shot, nicely scanned image...a piece of well preserved history. I've never been there...but I believe that it has been messed up by the new capitalists come from inland..

Hello Gert,
A lovely photograph from 27 years ago and one which is a true joy to behold. For a scanned Kodachrome slide, the image quality is excellent.
I love the straightforward composition here which is exceedingly well balanced with an interesting group of people of all ages resting in the forground - from babes in arms to middle aged people - while in the background we see hoardes of others streaming into this holy square.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.
Wonderful and Fascinating!
Kind Regards,
John.

Greetings Gert.
Older slides scanned into renewed digital existence will always be welcome. This is the kind of shot I remember taking - or trying to - during some of my travels in the 1970s and 80s, with more emphasis on the documentary recording of daily life than on the arty aspects. I doubt I would have achieved in those days the good balance and pleasing angles you did in this one, but I should spend more time looking through my old slides.
It's interesting to reflect on the lack of adornment - especially of the commercial variety - on the buildings and in the clothing, even in the nation's capital. And the un-selfconscious, perhaps unaware, positions of the people in the photo. I always find myself wondering when I see these older shots what became of the people in them, especially the children.
Very good scan, as usual.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Gert,
I love the meaning and allure that is added to daily life photos with the passage of time. This is a fascinating picture with exquisite composition and depth. It's captivating to watch the three main groups of people around the monument and their very different actions and attitudes. The information about the people and the buildings is great. The colours are wonderful and I love the combination of the "old" feel they give with the vividness of the scene. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hej Gert
Another great historical document from Lhasa. I wonder if it looks the same today around there and if the rural population still visits that temple? Taken in 1986 so this boy in the picture must be around 30 years old today, dos he still live in Tibet one wonders. This is the kind of picture that evokes a lot of questions about the passing of time.

Hi Gert
what can i say? You know i really enjoy these photos, although this one isn't as old as some of your other ones.
I wonder what they're eating....would it be too simple to suggest rice?
its great to view their attire, their hats, and compare them to the people in the bg.
another interesting photo, good on ya :)
cheers

Hi Gert,
This is a place that I dreamed to visit, and it is what I pictured that it would look like... Maybe you went there at a better time, it might have changed quite a bit by today. I really like this kind of historical photo, it is educational. A great documentary Gert.

Hi Gert!
A good daily scene from the old days! The place must be so different now. I like to see them all so relaxed, eating in the square. And it seems that many more are coming:)!
Good shot, showing not just the locals, but also the details of the architecture.

Hi Gert. Incredible photo, "saturated" with historical and anthropological significance. It is fascinating to study the clothes, group dynamics, the difference in the auras that the group in the foreground generates compared to the groups in the distance.A gem from the past. Best wishes. Klaudio.
