Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, Tibet

The Jokhang Temple was terrible vandalized during the Cultural Revolution, and one point was even used as a pig sty. Despite this and everything it has experience the temple remains one of the most beautiful and most active temples in Tibet. While the Potala remains one of the most iconic pictures of Tibet (and walking the Kora around the Dalai Lama's winter residence you will see a lot of pilgrims to support this), the Jokhang remains the heart of Tibetan culture.

The dragon in the picture is taken on the roof of the temple. While the temple itself is crawling with tourist (Western, Tibetan and Chinese), I like how the dragon and the clouds give it a more peaceful feeling. Walking up the stairs to take this picture, my complete lack of breath gave me a pretty good indication of just how high (3700m) Lhasa is.
