Photographer’s Note
Qinghai province is virtually empty - most of the people you see are nomads living in black yak-hair tents. My wish to see a tent inside was granted one day when I was invited in. The nomads prepared lunch for me (dried yak meat and sweet milk tea), while in one corner two monks were sitting next to an altar with pictures of the Dalai Lama. I was looking around all the time; there was so much to see! I could not miss this woman, who was busy preparing drinks and food. In the middle of the tent, there is an opening in the ceiling, through which not only daylight came in, but also some light snow. The light on her face was awesome, and in the end I had a photo session with her. A little shy in the beginning, she got used to it very fast, and this picture is just one of the many I took of her. You can see the typical Tibetan colourful decoration on her head and around her neck.
