[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These flowers can be seen all over southern China's mountainous regions, however despite searching I cannot find out what they are called!

I took this photo during spring festival (Chinese New Year) whilst staying in Dali. In Dali there are many semi-authentic Chinese period houses, built in the traditional way around a central courtyard and they often have great floral displays. These flowers were growing despite night time temperatures falling below -5C.

I loved the way the light was catching the flowers contrasted against the wooden window frames and the purple flowers in the background, so decided to try and capture it. The reduction in size for posting has introduced some harsh lines on the flower edges for some reason, which aren't there in the original, but I can't seem to solve this problem. Any advice?

This shot was taken before I really started taking photography seriously, and on my old Canon PowerShot camera (which, even now I still think is a great little camera, if a little clunky and slow to use!), but I've always liked this shot, so I thought I would share it with you. Let me know what you think :)

Hello Lee,

I love the colours and the light on this shot! Wonderful composition, too.
I'm afraid I can't give you any advice on resizing - I'm often troubled by what resizing does to my shots, too.

Thanks for sharing and best wishes
Claudia

What georgeous color... and I really like that you chose not only a contrasting color but a faded background color for the accent line on the frame. Great contast of the light and shadow of the wood element too.

Hi Lee, i really like the light on the orange-red flower.. you're right about the beauty of light here.. i think it's a nice macro shot.. wooden pieces and the blurry background look great they create nice contrast with the flower on the foreground.. nice thought, nice sharing,
best wishes,
ReLa

Hi Lee, The light on these flower has produced very beautiful vibrant colours, highlighted by the dark & blurred BG. The wooden window frame is also a good element. Nice composition
Thanks
Santo

Hello Lee,
A great capture of these lovely colourful flowers which benefit much from a pleasing back-light. Pleasing tonal contrasts between the vivid orange and the more muted purples in the background.

Hi Lee,
Excellent shot with splendid composition. The details are amazing I like the beautiful colours and the harmonious atmosphere. Have a nice Sunday

Hi Lee,
This is an excellent shot! WOW! What colors. I like the dark shadows of the window as a contrast too.
Very nice work.

Hi Lee,
Depiction of the orange is excellent. You have succeeded in adorning more beautifuliy the flowers by putting the dark frame in the background. The orange is a color suited in summer.
Have a nice day, Hisashi
