I heard about Lijiang for 10 years before I went there.I read the book and know that Lijiang has the best preserved ancient town in China - the Old Town which has been listed in the World Cultural Heritages by UNESCO in 1997. It was once the center of Lijiang and continues to maintain the original flavor of the local lifestyle, the typical groups of buildings and the profound cultural heritage of the region.Especially The Naxi;minority people who have strong culture such as religion " Dongba ",dressing, music, singing and dancing

After I went there I feel everything's perfect for tourist destination;architecture, accommodation, food, shopping street, sightseeing etc. but something missing.Real life has gone.In old town I could't see naxi peoples in daily life,in the street, only saw non local make business in town.
I got this shot when walked pass the square.Naxi ladies looked like to dance. All the way round them, many many tourists stood in a circle and took their photo. It seem I can see real culture only in showtime .

I'm very interested by your comment. They really do look like they are on display and one does wonder what they do when not "on duty." On a technical note, I like the guy taking a picture with his cell phone off to the left - it really makes your point.
