Photographer's Note

While cycling from TongHai to JianShui, I passed this scene: a family grave decorated with giant paper flower pieces. Every area in China has their own rituals, I have also seen occassions where the paper decorations were burned during the ceremony. Here they are placed on the grave.

I am not sure whether someone has just been buried here, or perhaps it is an ancient family grave newly decorated because of some ceremonial day. Someone told me burying is not allowed in China anymore for the Han Chinese, but maybe this grave belongs to the local minority living in the hills. Fact is, there were more graves, but this grave was the only one decorated and it looks like it has just been built.
