Photographer’s Note

The Stone Forest (Shi Lin) near Kunming in Yunnan province. A spectacular array of eroded limestone pinnacles.

This image was scanned from a colour original. I boosted red to the max before removing the colour. Then lots of contrast and a double dose of sharpening to really bring out the cracked surface of the rocks.

Very graphic picture, reinforced by the BW. That seems almost an artifact. Yunnan is definitely a province full with surprises.

A great subject for B&W treatment. The sky seems a bit too white and dominant against the rocks which look good. Alternative could be similar to if the photo were taken with a "red" filter.
