Photographer’s Note
Although pleasant and relatively "pretty" by Chinese standards, Kunming still has lots of hastily-built, oddly juxtaposed concrete blocks strewn out all over the city. While in some respects they aren't the most sightly of places, they nevertheless have a certain charm about them, and are endlessly fascinating, as the locations where regular Chinese folks live their lives out. The buildings are often packed so close together that there is little light down that gets through the narrow alleys - windows open onto walls, and navigating these neighbourhoods feels more like getting lost in a maze...
