Photographer's Note

My first trip to China: 2004.
The buildings in the background is Chinese border town Hekou, but I was standing on Vietnam territory to shot this picture.

They stated online that Lào Cai and Hekou – in the Yunnan province of Southwest China – lie at the junction of the Red River (Sông Hồng) and the Nậm Thi River approximately 260 km northwest of Hanoi. Lao Cai
was invaded by the Chinese in 1979 and the border was closed and not reopened until 1993.
