This is another photo taken at the dragon boat races in Aberdeen.
I was quite enjoying taking photos of the races, when I turned and saw this 'monster' beside me.
A very impressive camera, but my little Olympus started to feel a little inadequate.
I decided to post it as a panoramic shot - so as to feel the effect.
The title actually comes from the fact that the camera reminded me of a 'cannon/gun' blasting the boats in the harbour.
Tech: Cropped original. Sharpened. |

Oh yeah, and the Chinese sure do love their 'big dick' cameras! In this case it might actually be legitimate, but I've seen photographers at a market in Kashgar with enormous telephotos. They looked expensive alright, but in a crowded, narrow street with vendors and stalls all around their huge lenses must have been near on useless! That having been said, they might have been able to get lots of out of focus shots of details on the back of people's heads, and perhaps even the occasional succesful capture of a pigeon sitting on a roof ledge. Nice post!
;-D

Haha, great idea to post this as a large format, Andrew, it really conveys the story in a nice way (and okay, that lens is huge but still in this case it was you who got the interesting photo). Well timed to also have some of the event details well positioned at the left.
Bonjour mon ami Andrew,
Philippe
Great idea, Andrew.
The effect is very very stromg in the large version. The lens is huge and very detailed. I like the BG which shows a BTW image of the race. I gusee she's taking a close-up portrait of the of the boat-men.
Hi Andrew,
The large version blows your mind! Is she trying to catch nose hair of some of the racers?
Panorama was excellent choice. I just wonder if she misses a lot of good shots, because she's too tired to look for better POV, carrying around all the stuff.
