Photographer’s Note
A hot, overcast Spring day, in the city of Tianjin, which was hit by a massive earthquake in July, 1976.
From Wikipedia:
"The Tangshan earthquake (Chinese: 唐山大地震; pinyin: tángshān dà dìzhèn), also known as the Great Tangshan earthquake or GTE[1], was a natural disaster that occurred on July 27, 1976. It is believed to be the largest earthquake of the 20th century by death toll.[2] The epicentre of the earthquake was near Tangshan in Hebei, People's Republic of China, an industrial city with approximately one million inhabitants. The initial number released by the Chinese government was 655,000, but has since stated the number to be around 240,000 to 255,000.[2] A further 164,000 people were recorded as being severely injured.[3] The earthquake came in between a series of political events involving the Communist Party of China. It shook China both literally and figuratively in 1976, which was later labeled a "Year of curse".
The earthquake hit in the early morning, at 03:42:53.8 local time (1976 July 27 19:42:53.8 UTC), and lasted for around 10 seconds.[4] Chinese Government's official sources state 7.8 on the Richter magnitude scale[3], though some sources listed it as high as 8.2.[5] The USGS recorded it as magnitude 7.5.[6]
It was followed by a major 7.8 magnitude aftershock some 16 hours later, increasing the death toll.[5][7]"
"The earthquake killed 23,938 people in Tianjin and did heavy damage."
This is the memorial in central Tianjin city, taken in May, 2007. (Population of Tianjin is around 10,240,000 for the region, & the metropolitan area had 5 million people, in 2004, according to Wikipedia.)

Hello Chris,
A good angle of view through the arched lights looking on this interesting monument. The paving stones provide good lead lines taking the eye to the statue at the focal point. Good sharpness.

Hello Chris,
Bien vu.

Hi Chris,
Its 'just a monument' but showed in a great, interesting way. Good POV and composition, nice colours...I only regret the sky is so white and no clouds there...But the shot is very good!

Hello Chris, Amazing stats from the earthquake. You have captured the Memorial quite well. I like the curtain-like iron infront. Impressive. Regards, Danilo

Bonjour mon Ami Chris,

Hi Chris,
all lines lead directly to the memorial, well focused and sharp main subject. I think it is some smog in the background blurring the buildings.

Hi, chris. the sky didn't look too good on that day, but you managed to hide it partially with the wrought iron decorations, which I think was a good idea. The same decorations also serve as a good lead into the image. The composition is very symmetrical and this gives a good structure to yopur picture.

Good shot of the memorial! I like the composition, with the monument in the centre and the trees to each side. For some reason this really suites the monument because it is itself symmetrical. Good colour and detail too. Well done!

Hi Chris,
A centring adapted well to make us discover this monument. It is original and the pov gives a good depth.

Bonjour Chris,
pas mal de graphisme ici.
sucession de courbes qui mênent à un triangle.
Une photo qui manque un peu de contrastes à mon avis.
Best regards.
Daniel.
