Photographer’s Note

Everywhere in China today construction is taking place at a fast rate. Here a roof of a new substation is taking shape. Nearby whole city blocks of old apartments are being knocked down and once the site is clear, then new foundations are being poured within a week.

Shěnyáng is one of those northern Chinese cities that has always struck me as being industrial and technical.

I think it is close to the Korean/Russian border areas, infact I may have even passed through there on my travels, unforgettable ... yet heartland China to the core with the collision of the old and new and the vast human resources building yet another item of capitalist infrastructure.

Hello Murray,

I like the intense cobalt blue that dominates the photograph, and the activity of the workers captured in the composition. It must be just pat noon there now; I just returned from Cancun, Mexico, and here it is just past midnight.

Hello Murray, you have an excellent position to see and capture the building of this new substation. I like this top down view. I like too the colours they've selected for the building with the roof and framing, it makes for great contrasts. It's good to see this kind of action. We have a place just down the street from us that they've been working on for the past couple of years. The project managers of that one could use a lesson or two from these guys.

Excellent "journalistic" photo, the composition greatly taken care of, excellent high POV and framing and beautiful colours! Of course this photo would have not been the same with the men working! Congratulations!

Hi Murray,

The presence of people has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the substation in construction. There is a good contrast between the blue and orange color. The subject is nicely frame. Have a nice day.

Good elevated pov, showing the work very good, funny to see that there is 7 men occupied on this small job, in Europe you would probably see a 2-3 man work crew instead, but I guess the salary plays a big part there.
