Photographer’s Note
Long Shadows just before sundown in mid winter in a large northern China city. The temperature at this time was around minus 15 degrees celcius, but humidity was low and if wrapped up well, quite OK even refreshing for a quick walk.

It looks like a duotone picture at first sight. The golden tones are great, as well as the unordinarily centered composition. And the long soft shadows are messing with my mind.
Overall - a great photo!

Hello Murray
I liked that presentation!
Funny shadows, long ones... almost "artistically" shown!
TFS.
Kind regards,

Hello Murray,
Beautiful abstract pattern of geometries, of long shadows, and golden glow created by a low sun. I love the ambiance in this fabublous image.
Warm regards,

Very interesting composition, with the centered and off-center elements balancing each other. Great shadows, too. Could be a bit crisper, I think.

G'Day Murray,
Your Shenyang series has been very enjoyable, highlighting some scenery from one of the lesser known Chinese cities (for me anyway). It looks like a pleasant place, despite the bitterly cold temperatures. I would have to say that I consider this to be ranked amongst some of your best images; I just really like the simple-life feel and the combination of the lighting and all the patterns. My only request would have been to include the head section of the shadow, but this may have not been possible from your point of view. Amazing that these locals can ride a bike in such low temperatures, I would have thought that the air in the wheels would have contracted and the tread would stick to the surface if it got too cold...
A great piece.

Hi Murray,
An uncomplicated and great shot. The long shadows are simply wonderful, and the composition well balanced out with the other person in the corner. Lovely light for a soft atmosphere.

The top-down point of view is excellent, the golden color for the road is unusual but very nice too but the best result comes of course from the shadows of these two bicycles.
All the best,
Emmanuel

Hello Murray,
This is very artistic! I like the way you used the shadows in your composition! The sunset created beautiful golden color tones and long shadows which are very appealing! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Murray,
Its a simple but great shot!
I like your idea of this picture - long shadows. the title describes it well. It def. looks like a cold morning! I can relate to the picture a lot. This scene just reminds me of the time when i lived in Shanghai, my ah yee (maid/domestic helper) had to ride her bike for at least an hour to get to work because she wants to save money - it only costs RMB 1 (currently USD 1 = RMB 7.2) per bus ride. I always imagine people riding their bikes in china have all sort of life stories to tell us. It is a crazy world we live in hey?
cheers,
J x :)

hi Murray. Interesting effects that light and cold produce here. The road looks like some woven material, coarse silk almost. Or some soft wave on which these riders seem to be floating. Hard to analyze, but it does touch one's imagination and the sense of the aesthetic.Well done. Regards. Klaudio.
