Four Sentinels Photo

Photographer’s Note

Under clear skies on the weekend the temperature in this northern China city is around minus 10 degrees. At night it falls to around minus 20!`Without wind to add a chill factor and wearing the right clothes it is actually quite OK to be outdoors. These four new apartment blocks face south and must have a good view of this frozen lake used for skating in the winter and boating and fishing in the summer.

Hi Murray,

At minus 20C at night, there would be no risk of falling through any thin ice! As you say, with the right clothing you can condition yourself to the situation well. Interesting that the flags are all pastel colours here, harmonizing with the cool air and white buildings. Interesting architecture, I have noticed that in Asian cities they like to build twin towers or quads. Must save on design costs and they don't look too bad either. Well done, I am enjoying these photos from China.

I can't imagine me with my self there because peoples are wearing extra clothes if the temperature drop to under + 20 degrees (plus) Celsius here.

Skaters at front of four x huge skyscrapers are very well captured.

They have - 10? Well, we have + 3 right now. They say, Napoleon chosen a wrong winter to attack Russia, in this winter he'll lost no one soldier cause of frosts.
Quite a shot you posted here, small humans and big white houses. Atmosphere of the shot is quite cheerful.

nice picture of these people practising next to their housings, we don't get a feeling of cold but can see it's winter thanks to the pale sky, you did not get a very blue sky but at least you got one, which seems to be quite a rarity in the region.

Hi Murray, You have captured the four tall buildings very well, NEW, they look as though they have never been touched by human hands they are so white, the light blue clear sky creates a great backdrop, I like the composition with the frozen lake in the foreground, overall a nice bright photo, kind regards Wilson.
