| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| Life in Yanji, as a foreigner is odd, at the best of times. As a unilingual person, it life can often be humbling, which is a stark contrast to attention I get. Unless I am working with someone who wants to help me I will go hungry, or without the cool new gadget. Most stores have at least a little English here and there. But not this store Chinese, Korean, and Russian are the only languages the advertise their services in. A quick looks shows that it is a hardware store. This city is nestled in the north eastern corner of China. Near North Korea and Russia. |

Matthew
A strange combination of languages indeed. Chinese and Russian is a weird combination. Although I must admit that English whilst fairly non-existant in China will surely become spoken more widely with the coming on the Olympics

Matthew,
Thanks for the note, I like daily life photos like these! I remember when I was in China, I would have the same trouble as you. In the hotel I asked the people to write down some sentences, because otherwise I couldn't get anywhere!
