Yes, red and black – and grey work very well together. Simple and beautiful composition, nice shadows.

I appreciate what you are doing here Alton. (My uncle's name was Alton, so I hold it with respect...) I believe the image could be improved somewhat, to correct what I imagine are geometrical imperfections produced by the location and angle at which the image was captured. Assuming that to be the case, I did a workshop to correct the anomalies. You note, for example that the vertical line where red meets black is not perfectly vertical. You will note as well, that there is perspective distortion in the studs marking the door. They converge slightly to the right. See what you think of my playing Alton. I really like your image, with the bright color and fine details. But sometimes I can't constrain myself and have to play... ;-)

Good, simple and artisitc composition with excellent, vivid red colour and great black. Nice play with light and shadows.
I agree with Curtis though, that some small adjustments could improve this one. His WS was really good.
I like your fine details in this one. Good work.

The purity of your composition is most interesting, for several contrasting elements:
light and shadows, of course,
perpendiculars and diagonals,
black and red,
"flat" color and details,
but also with distance, since the brick wall and the door are not quite on the same plane. And that's why the above-mentionned assets really work (and work even better with the slight adjustments Curtis applied in his workshop).
Great eye, Alton!
I also created a theme, Exploring shapes and colours and would like to add your picture in it, if that's ok with you. Usually, TrekEarthers don't ask permission for that kind of operation, but I respect too much my own posts to "grab" someone else's pictures into something they might not want to be associated with; adding a picture to a theme sure shows some appreciation, but it's also a form of appropriation...
More to come, I hope! ;-)

Of course. It doesn't not need to be complicated. Best regards, and,
Congratulations!
