Shot in Puningsi monastery in Chengde. Young monk was watching suspiciously as I held my camera in a careless manner to pretend as if I was photographying just the prayer wheels. I was expecting some kind of protest and was ready to stop, but he didnīt care. Monks donīt particularly like to be photographed by tourists, which I can understand perfectly well. The Chinese in general are very superstitious people but they seem to have very pragmatic attititude towards photographic equipment and in most cases donīt believe that cameras (just a piece of manmade glass, plastic and metal) possess some hidden powers. In most cases I ask a permission to photograph somebody and usually nobody objects. Sometimes people ask money for being photographed.
(Original photo was shot JPG and is quite a bit larger. This has been cropped about 40% which has caused some deterioration of quality.)
