Wangfujing & pollution, bikes, taxis
This photo was taken at 18.20 hours, pollution almost hide the colorful sings and ambience of the famous street, almost all pedestrian, where the main brands are located, boutiques of Rolex, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Armany and recently a huge Apple store
Wangfujing is another must see in Beijing, it gives the same feel of Shanghai`s Nanjing road and People`s Square
Good place to hang out, as besides modern shopping complexes, you also get to see the many side streets along the main road, and St. Joseph's Church also known as the Wangfujing that is at the left side
The more interesting is The Wangfujing Snack Street, located just west of the street, is densely packed with restaurants and street food stalls

As far as I remember Wangfujing was a famous shopping street already in 1986, when I was in Beijing, but in my memories it looked quite different then. I am surprised that there are still people riding bikes in Beijing. I thought everybody had a car these days. This is not the most beautiful part of China, but it's a well taken photo and it tells me something interesting about China today.

Hi dear Maria, how are you here?
Sorry for my late reaction as so busy recently.
Very preferrable daily snap shot in an usual town.
Nice mix of now and then in China. Sharp and clear image in the perefct framework is as sual as great.
All the best and have a good day! Takero

it must be a bit frustrating to get to such an interesting location and have such a dense fog which hides everything. But you did a great job here presenting it. I like the taxi stand -that is something always so characteristic. I tried several times to photograph the row of typical cabs in Buenos Aires but I was not happy with the outcome.
Here you have several typical elements: bikes, fog, taxis and inscriptions in the local alphabet.
Very well done,

Though I never been to Baijing, maria, I learnt this town had a great renovation and modernization change in the last decade, and your pic. assure this for fact.
one heavy "price" to pay is the great pollution by industrial sights that around the big metropolis.
Well taken street life photo, superb clarity inspite the smog.

An excellent street scene and a brilliant documentary on the pollution here. I read about this quite often, and how entire cities have to shut down because of the levels of pollution, but it is not often I actually see it in person. Amazing to see that fog off in the distance blocking out the view.
Thanks for sharing

another very fine daily life shot of this town. Excellent colourful hoardings... Nice view of the road, all are good except the polluted air as you mentioned. I like your composition. Tfs.

Terrible pollution dans ce pays
J'ai vu des images où l'on peut pas voir à 5 mètres
Je ne fais pas de WS sur le ciel car l'image ne serait plus naturelle

a casual and interesting daily life scene that illustrates very effectively what we read in the newspapers about the modern urban aspect of Beijing and its pollution problems. I don't know if the people feel the quality of their life is improved but, as an outsider, I feel puzzled and worried that this view has overwhelming similarities with cities in Greece and Europe. China looks strikingly familiar here:) There's a lot of information and interest along your perspectives, the moody colours are eloquent and the people add movement and vividness. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Wonderful account of this vibrant city showing the typical scene of street life despite the air pollution, the light and exposure are so well managed. The fast changing pace of life here once were fully filled with bicycles, but here the two cyclists make strong fg subjects and lead into the depth. I love the way you've managed to capture so much valuable detail throughout in particular I marvel at the colourful building and vehicles on the right flank and find to be intriguing adding to this atmospheric shot.
Lovely street scene, Congrats. tfs

Belle scène de rues, vivantes, intéressantes, malgré la pollution, prise de cette façon on se croirait être dans cette rue, chez moi il y a beaucoup d'usine, donc beaucoup de pollution mais je ne pense pas a ce point là !!!

Looks modern and clean. I lived in Wuxi for almost a year and missed the blue skies. Good perspective and sharpness and the pollution is palpable. The people animate the scene and provide scale. The cyclist look exhausted. When I applied for jobs in 2011 I skipped any vacancies in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou for obvious reasons. An 8 year old girl was diagnosed with lung cancer in Jiangsu just recently. Tfs!

Excellent street snapshot from China. Very typical for Chinese roads. Cannot imagine a road without bicycle in China. The pollution is only a problem for local people living there, but also for photographers. It is steeling a lot of contrast from our photos. I like the excellent POV and very nice composition. Well done.
p.s. regarding your question to my last photo, generally I make some note drafts during my travelling, but generally I'm making the final note together with final photo editing and posting.
Wish you a very nice weekend.

interesting text about the local pollution... but the pic is not so usual, looking at it, I discover the pleasure of the 3 lines: benches, bikes with facing cyclist, and taxi line... it works;)

This is a very nice urban scene from Beijing. It looks a bit hazy, is it smog? I like the line of cars on the right.

The rise of the standard of living and the modernisation in Beijing happened without air pollution control Maria, then the population should face daily life issues, I like the series of ads appearing above the shops, a cycle path was planned to avoid traffic jams
