Photographer's Note
This was taken just before Chinese National Day, when I was walking around a hutong (old-style Chinese housing). I saw the red Chinese flag, which stood out against the plain background.

Great picture, I took many of those pictures in Bejing when I was in China for a year. Great display of the tattered housing, however the focus should be on the subject (Flag) apart from that, I love the green touch to it, if its natural its superb, if its retouched its great. Well done

Simplicity with good contrast of colours ie
red flag and almost all green based background. Good shot, reminds me of the Hulk!

I would crop the picture at the top and the right, to emphasise the flag more and make the composition simpler and a bit less cluterred. However, there is an wonderful atmosphere in this shot (created by the streetlights, I presume) and you did well to capture it.

this background is really interesting... but composition is not so well... it needs cropping...

Welcome to TE Josh. I like your pic very much. Not only for this red flag in this green environment, but also because of the bicycles leaning on the wall. Aside from correcting the tilt to the left, I find the composition OK. I made a WS just to straighten it up.

Well done! The color contrast is of course absolutely relevant to present this flag. Gives a feeling of Maoist China in the 60's...

Pale green light emphasizes the gloomy atmosphere of this place. The red flag and the proud nationalist feeling attached to it is a very strong contrast with the lousy environment where it's placed. You catched here some very strong symbolism. Nina's ws gives the final touch to a very evocative shot.
