Photographer’s Note

Right in front of my apartment building is an old shanty-town like neighbourhood of self-made structures in a myriad structure of different levels. Walking inside the neighbourhood is like walking inside a pyramid; narrow paths crisscross through the croncrete structures, the eyes follow lines into open windows, exposing people eating, watching TV, chatting, stairs lead up and down, food is prepared in the small paths, where also the public toilets are situated.
Its one of many small "pockets" of old-style Shanghai life tucked in between the ever-expanding rows of high-rise apartment buildings.
Walking in these streets is like going on vacation in your own neighbourghood.
