Photographer’s Note
Zhujiajiao is one of the many watertowns surrounding Shanghai. As most of them are full of tourists coming to take shapshots like this, I wouldn't usually bother to go there.
Still, as Shanghai's Antidote-party crew were throwing an electronic music festival there, I went. During day-time, there was, as expected, a lot of tourists and everything was a little circus-like, as it is in most Chinese touristic places. However, as night fell and I left the party to have a look around, all the tourists had left and the city was tranquil and beautiful (perhaps the atmosphere was enhanced a bit by the beers I had drunken at the party).
This is a typical scene from the village. I wouldn't recommend people staying for long in these water-towns, but its good for a day- or evening trip.

Henrik,
Looking at your picture above and reading your comment, I immediately have to ask, why do you recommend not to stay longer then a few hours in these water towns?
I guess your picture was taken during sunset, what explains why the row of houses is in a strong red-yellow light. The canal boost DOF and the sharpness is great. Good composition and execution.
Best regards
Urs

Hi Henric
is it a possible wrong white balance that gave these warm dreamy colours, or this is how it was? Very nice image overall, well done.

Well, I actually liked Zhujiajiao even on a crowded day:)
It wasn't that bad, especially not compared to Shanghai (I live in Xujuahui)
The real funny thing is that I have the exact same picture as yours, although in daylight, haven't posted it yet though.
