This is the Pudong financial district, seen from the west side of the Huangpu River, with a large container ship passing, the tallest structure you see is the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, its total height is 468 m/ 1,535.5 ft. There are also two tall sky-scrapers, one being the Jin Mao Building (as see in my photo Do not try to walk up), this was &, still is at present the tallest building of it's type in Easton China, that is until the building next to it is completed, strangely enough the building is already tall? Unfortunately I am not sure when it will be officially opened &, what it will be called.
The China haze is very prominent.

A great view of the skyline. The skyscrapers point very proudly into the cloudy sky, the tv-tower in particular. I like the slight haze over the buildings. The ship is a great addition too and add a lot of interest to the foreground. Thanks for sharing!
stego (22556) 2008-02-24 13:01
Great view! The old cargo ship looks like carrying those skyscrapers. I like the detail that the BG almost has no colour, making the ship stand out even more. The haze gives it a very 'modern urban' atmosphere. A remarkable photo indeed.
bracasha75 (24443) 2008-02-24 14:24
For me totaly excellent city in China and impresive shot of this more milions metropole...
Very well done
AROBN54 (11067) 2008-02-24 16:16
WOW!! Wilson, what a shot!!
I love the clarity of the containser ship in contrast to the hazy city. It looks like a scene from Star Trek. Great colors on the ship and I love that wonderfully cloudy sky. This is a COOL shot! Many thanks and kindest regards,
Vasa (15970) 2008-02-24 18:01
nice color contrast of this ship and the background. I am fascinated of this beckground. When I was in Shanghai there was only two big buildings near the sea. I cannot believe this change. Thank you very much for my sentimental disturbing.
Photo65Net (43120) 2008-02-25 0:37
Nice view to this beautiful buildings skyline.
I like how the cargo is enhanced in this nice catch.
Jean-Luc (5488) 2008-02-25 1:25
syd1946 (18663) 2008-02-25 1:42
Excellent compostion for sure...The city on the background is very impressive with the tall buildings and gives the form of the image. The ship in fron gives the interesting, the beauty and the difference.I enjoy it very much!
Have a nice day,
Budapestman (82620) 2008-02-25 3:32
Very spectacular image with splendid details, I like the impressive composition and the fantastic atmosphere. Great impression, indeed. Have a nice week
feather (51128) 2008-02-25 7:59
Although the haze is not doubt bad for the lungs, I like the effect it had created on the skyline. The ship in the foreground stands out well against it. The delicacy of the cloudy sky makes the perfect background. Well done
salvator (19102) 2008-02-25 9:05
The view is superb, except for me the ship that does not look all that nice. The background, and sky, the color slook superb.
Best regards. Salvator.

pleasant green before the grey skyline with the container ship. It has good depth and amazing clarity even with that haze. The green with the spots of rusty red are outstanding.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf
pboehringer (770) 2008-02-25 12:20
a great contrast of new and old with that rusty ship passing in front of this ultra modern Shanghai skyline. The wide angle distortion is something that looks interesting in this image.
Mateja (434) 2008-02-25 13:29
I could of say about this photo that is an image from a global documental movie about the today's world. Great composition and lovely background with nice colours.
ekinokswest (2992) 2008-02-25 15:25
one wishes to see even darker colors or darker sky and maybe blue hour photo however in the meanwhile I suppose this is all good too. well done.
gunbud (34052) 2008-02-25 18:35
The rugged looking green and yellow tanker contrast wonderfully with the silver blue sky and modern city highrises. The very interesting architecture appears a bit mysterious in this lovey silver haze.
Silvio1953 (98183) 2008-02-26 0:35
Hi Wilson, beautiful ship and splendid skyline of wonderful buildings, lovely delicate colors, very well done, ciao Silvio
Gerrit (43743) 2008-02-26 3:22
What a spectaculair skyline and the ship fits just well. Great colours too.
jhm (122458) 2008-02-26 4:41
We see the sky line from Pudon, with the a lot sky scrapers, together with big TV tower.
You wait perfectly to the passage of the ship, this gives a good scale to the background.
Very well composition and colours, nice done.
Thanks for sharing.

the Chinese culture impresses us and always astonishes us, but China did not finish astonishing us. Unfortunately, it seems to to me that its window shows only fantastic achievements, certainly, but far too inhuman. Excellent shot.
Have a nice day
robob (3646) 2008-02-26 7:35
Graal (88908) 2008-02-26 10:06
amazing modern architecture in BG, fine composition with the ship in image, good capture moment. An interesting view, I like it. Good work.
scobert (5355) 2008-02-26 12:13
What a fascinating view of modern China, so far removed from the "peasant meets tractor" days of Mao and his cronies. As usual, your composition and perspective is fantastic. This image speaks volumes about what China is and is aspiring to be. Young kids might want to study this photograph and learn Chinese as a second language. This country is an emerging superpower, no doubt about it. Outstanding travel photography!
danyy (0) 2008-02-26 23:46
pablominto (53744) 2008-02-26 23:53
This frame contains several symbols of economic success, mixed together in a pleasant composition!
The tower is nicely balanced bythe ship, fine sharp details...
Nicou (97727) 2008-02-27 0:30
macondo (17949) 2008-02-27 2:49
Another fine industrial-waterfront shot in this series. I like very much the retention of the wide angle lens distortion, which reinforces the impression of great height in the buildings. The bright colours of the boat stand out really well. Sharpness and detail are exemplary and only serve to highlight the perpetual haze of the urban regions of China.
vinicio (23415) 2008-02-27 6:26
Beautiful image Wilson, compliments, I like this views from low POVs and the haze create a surreal atmosphere, the district is fantastic in its modern architectures, well done.
JCG (35129) 2008-02-27 6:35
The sight of this immense tower must be fabulous but not advised for my giddiness !!! Interesting point of view on this resolutely modern city. The passage of the cargo liner is one in the photograph more and I like contrast between the boat and the background in this light fog. Well seen Wilson.
With all my friendships and a very good end-of-day,
claudeD (24173) 2008-02-27 8:55
Hello Wilson ,

COSTANTINO (42746) 2008-02-27 10:21
Beautiful capture,lovely sight with the
PUDONG financial district...
A well composed action picture...
Philippe (11836) 2008-02-27 11:47
Hi, Wilson. A picture that proves, if it was necessary, that China is becoming a modern country and wants to show it to the world. The skyline is very impressive here and I think it was a good idea to put this boat in the foreground bearing the name of its country.
MLINES (12516) 2008-02-27 13:07
Hi Wilson. Very good composition and the ship in front gives an idea of scale. It is sometimes difficult to get such clarity in this place. Excellent work. Murray.
xavshot (69835) 2008-02-27 14:10
delic (6735) 2008-02-27 15:10
The green ship dominates the foreground well and adds nice color. The high-rise skyline looks impressive. Maybe contrast increase could overcome the haze a bit. Regards,
pierrefonds (48353) 2008-02-27 17:42
A nice image of the container ship and of the highrise buildings in the background, the point of view is giving depth to the photo and showing the details and colors of the architecture of the buildings. The subject is well framed. Have a nice day.
Partha_c (2015) 2008-02-28 0:53
Hi Wilson. Well taken -- both of the shipping line and skyline.A great POV with distinct display.Regards.
jemaflor (68943) 2008-02-28 2:56
Good foreground with this boat, good sharpness and good effect with sky scraper in the blurry background, well composed.
evanrizo (456) 2008-02-28 3:14
an ideal composition to show us the modern China, the impression comes strong here, the light control comes also very good.
danos (74020) 2008-02-28 5:28
very nice the accessory of the passing bye boat of the region of Pudong. The view of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower as the sky-scrapers,make the scene marvellous.I visited the region in the evening and went up in the TV Tower. Really the view was inconceivable. The light and the colours are good enough concerning the weather.Informative your note too.
placombe (7729) 2008-02-28 17:59
Great shot of Shanghai skyline with the ship that brings perspective to the scene. China is becoming more and more an economic super-power and this shot reveals it very well.
John_F_Kennedy (41368) 2008-02-29 4:11
A wonderful cityscape with interesting skyscrpaers behind this ship. Fist I thought it is Manhattan ... Great composition.
chinchini (31529) 2008-02-29 8:17
UlfE (13730) 2008-02-29 11:05
Absolutely fantastic shot. I love the view of the skyscrapers against the exiting sky. I would have been fantastic even without the ship, but it really adds an extra dimension to the picture. Also very nice with the relfection of the sun in the water. A superb work. Have a nice week-end!
Cricri (86463) 2008-02-29 11:59
Hi Wilson ,
Have a nice weekend for you
Gustaw (21670) 2008-02-29 12:37
Hi, my friend!
And next very interesting and very beautiful photo from China. I like your composition. Very interesting modern architecture. I like your ship. Well done.
gary91 (15345) 2008-02-29 23:44
Shangai skyline is very impressive and you got here a nice point of view. It was a good idea to include the ship on the foreground which is enhancing the image a lot.
Wonder at what height they will stop building new things there ?
Have a nice weekend.
Best regards, Christian
Henryk_Bilor (20797) 2008-02-29 23:56
Great capture with a good contrast between the horizontal line of the ship and vertical of buildings. Nice light too.
axiotea (21647) 2008-03-01 7:05
I can imagine the sky in Beijing is never blue, due to the pollution...Here, combined with the luminosity, it gives a special atmosphere. The green of the boat is adding a touch of color and contrasts with the soft colors. The buildings are providing a perfect BG with its graphical impact.
snunney (67346) 2008-03-02 1:10
A fine composition of this impressive skyline. The inclusion of the passing ship puts the whole in its context of a great seaport. Good colours and clarity despite the haze.
Bluejeans (64239) 2008-03-03 10:48
bakes888 (18499) 2008-03-03 23:57
Hi Wilson. Nice photo. You are right about the haze, the difference in contrast between the ship and city is pronounced. Well composed, you show the skyline well. Nice texture in the sky also. Thanks for sharing.
Matthew-Watt (6035) 2008-03-04 21:11
Yes, the haze is a problem when shooting in many Asian cities in particular. The name of the ship really helps to define where the photo was taken! At a very quick glance of the thumbnail I thought this might be Toronto with the CN tower but yes with a closer look it is obviously the Oriental Pearl (said to be modeled on the shape of a Chinese Lute instrument). The large globe is a bit of an icon also, and we can clearly see the prominently marked China facing the water. I wonder if it rotates or is lit up at night. Good photo, I wonder how Shanghai will envy Beijing this Olympic year?
emjleclercq (15778) 2008-03-04 23:39
Very impressive view of this modern district, full of skycrapers. The container ship is just as uggly as usual, I would have appreciated a more traditonal boat but it is clear (not obvious here with the haze you mention) that times have changed in China.
All the best,
ChrisJ (86876) 2008-03-06 0:38
I've been to Shanghai twice, & this is a good capture of the Pudong skyline, on the south bank of the Huangpu River. Excellent sharpness on the text. Tfs!
chrisnet (21086) 2008-03-06 13:48
Good POV of this city of China, well composed with this old cargo in the foreground.
adores (28218) 2008-03-17 18:25
A really famous place in Shanghai! I've taken a few there but they are not very good.
But your photo is different, especially because of the ship passing in front and what a name it has! Great composition!
skellywag (887) 2008-03-19 3:57
Hi Wilson, I have not visited trekearth for a while. Nice to see these shots! I remember them well. The ship stands out in the fg against that fantastic Shanghai skyline. Keep on posting, regards, Jean
patdeph (35738) 2008-03-27 14:16
it's a spectacular picture of the skyline! It's funny, becausegenerally,I don't ike this kind of building, but here,i find this very esthetic, maybe ecause they have the same colour thann the sky,and the harmony is perfect! The boat on the foregroung gives another dimension to the building!really well done,I like very much!
atus (15808) 2008-05-25 9:01
Well captured and nicely composed shot with the ship in the fg. which adds more interest and balance to the picture. Well done!
anducina (8407) 2008-05-26 23:27
Impressive cityscape, with the skyscrapers of different shapes and heights, the long green boat on the silver river and the misty sky.
rigoletto (30478) 2008-06-06 21:25
This is an unforgettable view for me, i recall nice and quite exotic memoirs whenever i see this Pudong skyline. Unfortunately i didn't have a good camera with me when i was there, so, i can only look at such photos and sigh... The large ship makes this one differ from other counterparts. TFS,
dcawker (5717) 2008-06-23 5:37
Wow, really excellent shot here.. It feels like a dream. Regards, Doug
fulvio52 (8314) 2009-03-09 11:52
A tip of the hat to your light management, handling all that haze the way you did is pretty damn outstanding! Looks like you turned it into the perfect background for that green container boat passing through... Very strong, both technically and in terms of atmosphere, TFS! Have a nice evening, I'll be seeing ya.
janraiski (340) 2012-06-11 0:25
great view, composition, contrast between the ship and background (colors and also vertical/horizontal line).
