Photographer's Note
This is the Pudong financial district, seen from the west side of the Huangpu River, with a large container ship passing, the tallest structure you see is the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, its total height is 468 m/ 1,535.5 ft. There are also two tall sky-scrapers, one being the Jin Mao Building (as see in my photo Do not try to walk up), this was &, still is at present the tallest building of it's type in Easton China, that is until the building next to it is completed, strangely enough the building is already tall? Unfortunately I am not sure when it will be officially opened &, what it will be called.
The China haze is very prominent.

Hello Wilson
Une belle vue sur le "skyline" de Shanghai. Les immeubles sont comme estompés dans l'arrière plan pour donner toute son importance au cargo.

Hi Wilson,
A great view of the skyline. The skyscrapers point very proudly into the cloudy sky, the tv-tower in particular. I like the slight haze over the buildings. The ship is a great addition too and add a lot of interest to the foreground. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Wilson,
Great view! The old cargo ship looks like carrying those skyscrapers. I like the detail that the BG almost has no colour, making the ship stand out even more. The haze gives it a very 'modern urban' atmosphere. A remarkable photo indeed.

nice color contrast of this ship and the background. I am fascinated of this beckground. When I was in Shanghai there was only two big buildings near the sea. I cannot believe this change. Thank you very much for my sentimental disturbing.

Bonjour Wilson,

Although the haze is not doubt bad for the lungs, I like the effect it had created on the skyline. The ship in the foreground stands out well against it. The delicacy of the cloudy sky makes the perfect background. Well done

You wait perfectly to the passage of the ship, this gives a good scale to the background.

Hi Wilson,
What a fascinating view of modern China, so far removed from the "peasant meets tractor" days of Mao and his cronies. As usual, your composition and perspective is fantastic. This image speaks volumes about what China is and is aspiring to be. Young kids might want to study this photograph and learn Chinese as a second language. This country is an emerging superpower, no doubt about it. Outstanding travel photography!

Bonjour Wilson;
un ciel qui aurait pu être un peu plus contrasté avec l'usage astucieux d'un filtre.
La bateau est un élément de la photo , mais il masque un peu l'arrière-plan qui est tout aussi interessnt.

Hi Wilson.
Another fine industrial-waterfront shot in this series. I like very much the retention of the wide angle lens distortion, which reinforces the impression of great height in the buildings. The bright colours of the boat stand out really well. Sharpness and detail are exemplary and only serve to highlight the perpetual haze of the urban regions of China.

Hello Wilson
I can imagine the sky in Beijing is never blue, due to the pollution...Here, combined with the luminosity, it gives a special atmosphere. The green of the boat is adding a touch of color and contrasts with the soft colors. The buildings are providing a perfect BG with its graphical impact.

Hello Wilson,
Yes, the haze is a problem when shooting in many Asian cities in particular. The name of the ship really helps to define where the photo was taken! At a very quick glance of the thumbnail I thought this might be Toronto with the CN tower but yes with a closer look it is obviously the Oriental Pearl (said to be modeled on the shape of a Chinese Lute instrument). The large globe is a bit of an icon also, and we can clearly see the prominently marked China facing the water. I wonder if it rotates or is lit up at night. Good photo, I wonder how Shanghai will envy Beijing this Olympic year?

Very impressive view of this modern district, full of skycrapers. The container ship is just as uggly as usual, I would have appreciated a more traditonal boat but it is clear (not obvious here with the haze you mention) that times have changed in China.
