Zhujiayu is the oldest settlement in Shandong province and, between chores on the fields, this hillside town is trying to get itself on the tourist map. Most (Chinese) tourists visit Zhujiayu on a daytrip from Jinan, the provincial capital of Shandong.
The old village inn ('Gucun Jiujia') is a very authentic place to stay, meaning that any lack of modern comfort is more than compensated for by its old-style architecture and the friendliness of the owners.
In the summer of 2007 we spent a couple very rainy days at this inn. As the rain turned the village roads into creeks, I shared a quiet smoke with dear ol' grandpa and my wife exchanged ideas on family affairs (I guess) with the lovely woman who runs the place . Meanwhile her daughter taught our 4-year old how to play with cockroaches. Recommended!
IMPORTANT: We tried to send some of the pictures I made to the inn, but they got returned. If any of you plans to visit Zhujiayu and wants to deliver them, please let us know. |
