Photographer’s Note
This is an empty cargo ship traveling up the grand canal in China, what got me about this is what would it be like when full, this canal is the largest & oldest in the world with a length of 1795km, the canal starts at Beijing & finishes at Hangzhou, it was one of the most amazing sights I sore in China,

Seems to be that the next wave is the last wave ...
I like the perspective. This is an excellent shot.

Hi Wilson,
Amazing view. It's like a seadragon waiting to attack almost below the water level. All the waves make that look dangerous. You had a good view, (from another boat I guess).

Wilson,
Great dynamics in this image !
I like a lot how you caught the waves, and how the boat seems in trouble.
Nice job,

Hi Wilson,
this is a deep impression (LOL). Superb water texture with a clear impression of motion and excellent angle. How is this if not empty?

Si cette pèniche est vide effectivement je me pose des questions sur sa flotabillité quand elle sera pleine. une photo très dynamique avec la présence des remous.
C'est très bien vu!!

Hello Wilson,
If this barge is this low to the water when it is empty, how low is it when loaded with 40 tons of cargo? I wouldn't work on this barge. I have been in some discussions lately about photographer's styles. I can always spot your artistic syle right away. You compositions only contain exaclty as much information in them as neccessary, no more, no less. You also pay a great deal of attention to your illusion of depth. The converging lines of the big barge and the strong 45 degree angle of the boat and the canal creates this illusion beautifully. This is a great travelogue that you are posting. Well done!

Hello Wilson
Yes, it is amazing to see this empty cargo going deep in the water! The movement of the river is well captured and gives kind of dynamism to the scene which has good sharpness. The weeping willows are a nice touch of greenery.

Hi Wilson.
Another fine shot from your China series. I very much like the exposure and richness of colour without its seeming to be over-saturated or anything. Interesting subject, not only empty but seemingly unmanned! I like the composition which provides just enough urban background at the top. Incredible detail.

Hi Wilson,
Yes, that is low! I don't know what happens when loaded! Movement is well renderd with the waves and foam around the barge, overcast sky gave quite subdued colors, but contrast and sharpness are fine... Interesting take!

quel mouvement de l'eau, on dirait que la péniche avec est submergée par les vague et l'effet donne qu'elle est presque à ras l'eau, très belle image.

From this angle it looks like the boat is sinking ... and to think this an empty vessel. Wonderfully captured and composed. I like the overall image clarity and color saturation. Well done! Tfs

Oh boy, what a fine action capture you have here with this big old barge sloshing down the canal displacing water and creating a forceful wake. Very vivid colors with exceptional details and sharpness to this unique image.

Hi Wilson, Very good close up to show this strange low floating vessel. Having seen them like this in Huangpu in centre of Shanghai it is a wonder why they dont take in water and sink. Your composition is excellent to show the situation. TFS. Murray.

Bonsoir Wilson,

Best regards.

Hello Wilson,
This vessel seems to have survived many trips up and down the canal so I guess they know what they are doing!
But I agree it looks like it will sink if filled with gravel or whatever the cargo may be...
A well composed presentation with good diagonal movement!

Hi Wilson,
As a regular spotter of freighters on the Rhine I find this picture amazing, because even though the freighter here is empty it is so low on the water it seems about to sink, I guess when it is loaded it must operate as a submarine ?
Not a spectacular image, but it is well framed, sharp, and it tells a lot about the world.
Have a nice week end JY

The barge is proably not fully empty, since the free board is rather low on the water. But I have seen sometimes loaded one with the water coming over the board in the central part of the ship... Good framing and sharpness.
All the best,

Hola Wilson.
Very interesting shot of the last trip of the old boat, it has to be the last trip because it really looks in bad shape. Your shot is very good captured from a great POV. Clarity, frame and sharpness are wonderful, nice colors contrast.
Well done. TFS.

Hi Wilson,
It is a really good question you put in the title. This an excellent shot taken from the very best POV. The boat diagonally across the picture and the foam on the waves in the direction where you are create a feeling of movement and speed. A superb job! Have a nice week-end!

Hi Wilson,
Also my first thought when I saw the photo and noticed the ship is empty, was what will happen when it's full? Good photo from a well chosen POV. The colours of the ship contrast well with the grey water. I like to see the waves around the ship too. Well seen and thanks for sharing!

Hello Wilson,
I find this picture a lot better than your last up load in B&W.
Here we see a very good composition and attractive colours.
You choice as subject is very well, also the area care for a nice image.
A boat without flag to the backside this is not normally, maybe in Chine is this normally.
Very well done, thanks for sharing.

Hello Wilson,

Hi Wilson,
Excellent motion shot with a spectacular composition.
Looking at this picture I sense that the waves were rough due to the wind conditions.
You are right, It looks like the top of the barge rails are almost level with the water.
If they put any weight this barge will become a submarine :)))
excellent focus.
Well captured.

Hi Wilson,
The boat is very low in the water, I wondered how it would be when it will be full of cargo. A nice image of boat with the waves rolling along the hull. The point of view is giving depth to the photo. It is clear and precise. Have a nice day.

An interesting photograph, Wilson, and a good question. It seems impossible that this barge could take on any cargo. Maybe it is sailing with lead nuggets in the bottom? Did you sharpen just the barge and not the background? Or perhaps the apparnent sharpness of the barge is just the effect of the f/5.6 aperture setting. Your shot also shows us a typical Chinese polluted sky - the bane of photographers there. Cheers . . . David

Hi Wilson,
I saw this on the home page and you've hit the nail on the head, 'what would it be like when it was full!'Great shot, it's well captured and from a good perspective too. Sorry I've not been very active lately, too much work makes Jack a dull boy, so they say, but good to see your superb image all the same.
