Ospreys on a Chinese fishing boat in Tongli, a picturesque canal town about 18 km south of Suzhou. Well worth staying overnight at the YHA or a hotel to avoid the mid morning and late afternoon crowds which can make photography frustrating to say the least. Taken on an overcast day at the 3 bridges junction. These are more for tourists than for local use. The owner is off having lunch. I somehow doubt it would be fish, which is what these birds are used for. The green mesh net to retrieve the fish is over the prow of the boat.

A rather specialised form of fishing. However, this does make a most unusual shot and one which is so unfamiliar to western eyes.
You have achieved a fine composition, the focal boat almost diagonal and at right angles to its partner, which leads nicely to the bridge. (Bridges and water reflections are fine features for a photographer.) The bridge channels attention much deeper to a strong vanishing point.
Have a good day,

What an interesting and unusual scene. Well composed and having good light and colours. I like the juxtaposition between the two boats. Really must try and get to China someday.

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The length of the canal is giving depth to the scene. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the birds and of the architecture of the bridge. The light has a good effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

a fascinating shot this. It is an image full of character and intrigue especially when you realise the birds are used to catch the fish. Despite the dullness of the day it actually adds to the atmosphere I think. Wonderful imagery!

Je crois bien que ce sont des oiseaux pêcheurs qui sont la vedette de ce coin de pays. Leur dimension est impressionnante.J'aime beaucoup le petit pont derrière.

This area seems to epitomize my ideas of old China Chris. The little bridge is so reminiscent of the bridge which appears on the early Willow pattern china (which was made in England with a 'Chinese' design). I almost expect 3 men with plaits down their backs to run across it. The boats make a fine FG and the birds an extra bonus (as is the pretty pink parasol). A lovely evocative shot. Warm regards Rosemary

So lovely capture of the Chinese daily life with so amazing details. Fine shot! TFS! What do you do? I think this is good job if you can work in different countries long years.

Interesting color for water. It looks more like pea soup than a river canal. I assume this was soon after rains and the rivers are still muddy. I like the reflections on the far side of the canal. Good light and color management, nice composition. TFS.

I like very much your composition and framing. All the elements that make up this quiet scene are interesting and well placed in the frame. There's a subtle play of perspectives that is intriguing and delightful. The soft light has created a nice, tranquil atmosphere and a wonderul combination of pastel colours and shadows. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

Wow, Chris, Ospreys on urban scenery, quite unusual, for me at least.
Yet, a nice catch over the canal crosses the village.
View under the bridge in fine depth, and colors of the displayed merchandise on right are eyes catching objects here.
But, as said, I am impressed with the birds.
Enjoy your weekend,
