Photographer's Note
Taxia is a small village with some big houses. It is nestled along a small river, which often has to deal with too much water. When we were there, the streets along the river were flooded...but the locals didn't seem to bother too much. It was not a REAL flood yet, as the water was still a few inches away from most doors.
The huge houses you see in this picture are large communal farmhouses, solid and fortified on the outside to protect the families living inside both from the weather elements and from enemy attacks. Though primitive, they are actually quite cosy on the inside with lots of wood, balconies, etc.
Taxia village has a handful of good enough places to stay and a few restaurants, which makes it a good base to explore the 'tulou' area of southern Fujian. This region is famed - and UNESCO protected - for its unique earthen buildings.

Hello Benny,
This is nicely exposed with the good colours against the misty background. Well placed on the diagonal it is a fine view of this small village and the muddy water. An interesting note too.
Kind Regards, Ann
