An elderly Khampa devotee spinning his prayer wheel clockwise for good mantra just ouside Tagong Si Monastery. Tagong, Western Sichuan.
For a moment he was distracted and that was my moment to push the camera button!

This is so cool. A fantastic shot, love it. It is cultural crash. The sun glasses seem out of place but we all know they needed it. Being in high altertude the sun is so strong, you really need to protect your eyes more than down here. Love how comfortable he is posing for you and the confident smile and the wheel still spinding, that is important for all Tibetans. The most dedicated people I know.

a bold and fascinating capture. After all the captivating and meaningful glances we have enjoyed and studied in your great portfolio of portraits, here's a person facing us wearing sunglasses:) Here we have an intriguing smile around which everything is laid out wisely, for additional interest and support. We are forced to take every single detail into account in order to construct a reliable impression of this scene. The playful and dynamic tilt, the play of shapes, the movement of the wheel and the warm, textured face are elements that interact so good in this tight frame. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Bon portrait de cet homme et de son instrument de prière. Très bonne netteté de l'image. Bien fait.

Lunettes et sourire de star pour ce fidèle pratiquant dont tu as réalisé un excellent portrait.

Nice smile, superb portrait. Like how you use the light here i e. light is where it should be. The colors seems perfect. I like portraits when they are not over processed and this is NOT. Framing/cropping and comp is perfect, really nice shot.

Nice portrait of the devotee with the Mani wheel. He looks quite fashionable in those cool shades and trendy hat. Like his nervous smile as you took his photo. The motion blur on the wheel is attractive as well. Well observed and well taken. Thanks for sharing.

I like the fun given by the solar glasses, a bit in opposition with the tradition of the prayer mills.
It is adding interest to the portrait to oppose tradition to modern.

What a cutie. he's so cool in those sunglasses. I love the wry smile you captured and the beautiful tight framing. The blur of his hand and the instrument he is playing adds a touch of originality and extra interest to this lovely portrait.
Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful Friday

Hello abmdsudi. A beautiful and subtle photo. I like the composition, because only what is truly important is visible. Well done.

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Another excellent portrait, so sharp in his face. The blurry prayer wheel gives the idea of movement. It's funny because this man doesn't look very concentrated during his prayer ! That makes a gap with the solemnity of religious facts.
nikkitta (17066) 2014-02-03 14:32
Great portrait of contrasts where the golden of the prayer wheel in soft mouvement catch the views, but what I admire is the monk wearing so oxidental sunglasses, never see one like this before
He seems quite proud and smiling at you
Great TE contribution

We have seen these prayer wheels a lot in Nortyern parts of India...Ladakh included...I have a few portraits as well for interesting personatlities twirling the metal wheel...Your subject also seems to be an interesting character. Like the details on his face...
