The Grand Buddha (Da Fo) at Leshan is 71 metres high and is claimed to be the largest Buddha in the world. Construction started in 713AD and took 90 years to complete. The Buddha is carved into a cliff face overlooking the river.
There are two ways to get a close-up view of this impressive sight. One is to take the perilous path down the cliff face, walk in front of the Buddha and climb up the other side, as the people in the picture are doing. A more relaxing method is to jump on the tour boat and sail down the river. This photo is taken from the boat.

A very nice one, but I think vertical would heve been a better choice. I have done it that way when I was in Leshan. Wow and he's still sitting there...Best wishes.

Superbe et impressionante image . Un véritable colosse . Les couleurs et le cadrage sont splendides. Quelle foule !!

Very impressive, I'll have to go there some time. I like how the vegetation is swallowing the monument. Nice that you got a crowd in the picture too.

Nice picture, I would stick with the vertical shot on this one. That buddha is huge.

Hi Jonathan, Your have nicely captured the famous Buddha. It looks that you have chosen the right way to view the Buddha, or you have to fight for the traffic as shown in the picture. A well taken picture to show the grand size and the breath taking looking of the giant art work. A clear and sharp image. An informative note. Well done.

A great photo in the tradition of TE bring us a new and exciting part of the world. The inclusion of a line of people at the bottom give a very good idea of scale.

Wow, this sculpture is massive! What I like about it is the way the plants are growing on it, making it seem like a natural feature, or a figure hiding in the jungle. Your photo is great because it shows the people at the bottom and climbing up the side, giving some sense of scale. Well done Jonathan!

UUUUUUAAAAAAUUUUUHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Impresionante la dimension del buda no me extraña que se llame el GRAN BUDA. Me gusta mucho el contraste de la gente con el Buda ya que de este modo se aprecio su grandeza.
Muy buen tiro.
Gracias por compartirla.

This is really an awesome picture! Especially before zooming in, it feels marvelous. To be honest, loads of people visiting like showing in this picture is pretty usual, probably you have found it. That's China, isn't it?!
Hope you have enjoyed your trip there and this is really a comprehensive shot.
TFS and regards,

Way to get it all in one frame! Unfortunately, when I was there in December, it was so foggy that I could barely even make out the shape of the sculpture from the small island only about 200m away. It was a real shame, but I couldn't do anything about the weather. You've got it all together here, though. Good shot!
