Buddhist statue inside a cave at Yungang, near Datong. The two travellers at the foot of the statue give you an idea of the dimensions here. Apart from that they are also nice people to travel with;-)

The Yungang Grottoes (simplified Chinese: 云冈石窟; traditional Chinese: 雲崗石窟) are ancient Buddhist temple grottoes near the city of Datong in the Chinese province of Shanxi. The grottoes were mainly constructed in the period between 460-525 AD during the Northern Wei dynasty.

nice photo!
It give pleasure to see statue of Buddha outside India. I saw similar statue's in India at Ellora and Ajantha caves.

Hello Benny,

Nice shot with especially a good rendering of the soft light on the white stones. We realise what we are looking only with the 2 tourists in the bottom, sharing the scale. In this way the pink shirt of the girl put a welcome touch of vivid color in the frame.

Hey Benny,

This is an amazing photo for several reasons, I love the light contrast, the sense of fog on the ground (although proly an illusion), great many details and of course, a lovely (double) sense of scale.

Je trouve la lumière superbe dans cette photo. La présence des deux personnages apportent non seulement de la couleur mais aussi une échelle pour se rendre compte de la hauteur de cette statue. Impressionnante !

Dag Benny,
Een ontdekking deze reusachtige boedhha beelden. Goed gebracht met het nodige contrast en tekening alhoewel de lichtcondities moeilijk waren. En de personen geven schaal aan de reuzen.
